Rust Removal suggestions

Our communities number one code violation is rust stained sidewalks and driveways. There are a number of simple solutions to keep your sidewalk and drive clean.

First make sure your sprinklers are adjusted to avoid watering your sidewalk and driveways. This will reduce how often you will need to clean the rust stains.

To remove the stains there are two products readily available in our area. You can purchase the premixed rust removal solution at Home Depot for about $8 a gallon. Windmill Sprinkler, on Atlantic Ave west of the turnpike, sells a powder form of oxalic acid for about $8 a bag. You have to mix with it water but it will make 5-10 gallons depending on how strong you need it. Both solutions can then be applied to your sidewalk by spraying or rolling. Make sure you follow the product instructions. These chemicals can cause damage to you and your lawn if not used properly.

Thank you for keeping Pheasant Walk rust free!
