JUNE GARDENING

It's that time of year again. Summer, hot and humid, possible thunderstorms every afternoon. Hope your garden is ready. When it isn't raining you can lose your lawn in less than a week to the heat. Check your irrigation systems. In the summer you can lose your lawn to fungus and or increased insect activity in less than a week too. Keep a watchful eye.

June is also a good time to fertilize. The Univ. of Florida and the Cooperative Extension service recommend an Ironizer for your lawn. If you use a nitrogen rich fertilizer, that would be a high-first number on a bag of fertilizer, your lawn will put out a lot of excess growth that could create thatch and clog up your lawn. An Ironizer will green up the lawn just as effectively here in South Florida. For the rest of your landscaping needs try using a fertilizer with micro-nutrients as well as a slow release formula.

Of course you can trim and mulch your garden as needed. Allow your plants to come in nice and strong for the remainder of the summer.

Remember to drink lots of water, cover your head, and wear sun screen. Safety first.
Happy Gardening.
